IVF

IVF or in-vitro fertilization literally translates to fertilization outside the body, IVF is a first line therapy for a variety of problems such as endometriosis, tubo-peritoneal disturbances, pelvic adhesions, PCOD and cases of unexplained infertility. Also, patients who have had repeated failures of IUI or simple treatment methods in the past qualify for IVF.

ICSI

Intra- cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is a technique for the treatment of extreme male infertility in which sperm are injected directly into the body (cytoplasm) of the egg. It is especially useful for patients where the male partner has a very low sperm count (oligozoospermia), poor sperm motility (asthenozoospermia) or too many abnormal sperms (teratozoospermia).

In ICSI all the steps are similar to the procedure of IVF, except the step of fertilization. Normally in IVF one egg is mixed with 100,000 sperms and one of the sperms fertilizes the egg on its own. In contrast, in ICSI each egg is held and injected with a single live sperm. This micro-fertilization is done with the help of a machine called the Micromanipulator.

IUI

Intrauterine insemination is the deposition of washed and capacitated sperm into the uterine cavity it is one of the most popular artificial reproductive techniques till date for the following:

• Mild endometriosis
• Tubo-periotoneal factors in a young patient with at least one functional and patent fallopian tube
• Mild male factor infertility
• PCOS - as an adjunct to ovulation induction
• Unexplained infertility
